Steelers Jaguars Game Recap
Steelers 17, Jaguars 9: Brice McCain returned an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help visiting Pittsburgh hold off Jacksonville.
McCain picked off Jaguars rookie Blake Bortles and scampered 22 yards to give the Steelers (3-2) an eight-point lead. Ben Roethlisberger, who passed for 273 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Michael Palmer as Pittsburgh bounced back from a loss to Tampa Bay.
Bortles was 22-of-36 for 191 yards and two interceptions in his second career start for Jacksonville (0-5). Josh Scobee kicked three field goals to account for the Jaguars’ scoring.
Jacksonville was within 10-9 after Scobee kicked a 36-yard field goal with 3:16 left in the third quarter. Bortles threw a pass in the right flat and McCain was waiting for it and easily scored with 11:32 remaining and the Jaguars never recovered.
Scobee kicked a 43-yard field in the opening quarter to give the Jacksonville the early lead. Pittsburgh went up 10-3 when Roethlisberger connected with Palmer on a 1-yard scoring pass with 1:53 left in the half before Scobee kicked a 35-yard field goal with nine seconds left.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh converted 8-of-16 third-down opportunities while the Jaguars went 3-of-12. … DE Abry Jones had two of Jacksonville’s four sacks. … Steelers S Shamarko Thomas departed with a hamstring injury.
